India’s Jackfruit Exports from North East to London Begins

In a major step towards boosting income of North Eastern farmers, a shipment of 1.2 metric tonne (MT) of fresh jackfruit was exported from Tripura to London on 21^st May 2021. The consignment was packed at Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA). After successfully exporting pineapples & lemons to the Middle-East countries, Tripura’s jackfruit exports to London will give a new way to country’s agriculture sector.

As per India export data of jackfruit, India exported jackfruit worth USD 7.5 million to global countries during Jan 2020 to Mar 2021. India export data is essential for government agencies to undertake promotion activities for evolving structured marketing strategies for export of food products and market intelligence for high-quality packaging, capacity building, skill development, international exposure and taking informed decisions.

Under HS Code 08109090, India exported jackfruit the most in Q1 of 2020 during the period of Jan 2020 to Mar 2021. According to India customs data, India’s exports of jackfruit declined from Q1 of 2020 to Q4 of 2020. The major factor behind this decline was rising local demand of fresh fruits due to ongoing coronavirus pandemic. In Jan-Mar 2021 quarter, exports of jackfruit from India reported a slight increase. India’s Top 10 Export Partners of Jackfruit Jan 2020 to Mar 2021

The United Kingdom, who is India’s 10^th largest export destination of jackfruit, is all set to receive consignment of jackfruit from Tripura. Based on research reports, a consignment of 350 jackfruits was shipped to New Delhi from Agartala for exports to the U.K. During Jan 2020 to Mar 2021, India’s exports of jackfruit to UK shared 3.3% to total value of shipments.

From a country perspective, India exported jackfruit the most to Singapore with percentage share of 18.2% during Jan 2020 to Mar 2021. India’s other major export partners of jackfruit are Nepal, Qatar, Germany, Maldives, Bangladesh, United Arab Emirates, Canada and Oman. Check value in percentile of these countries.

Besides jackfruit, recently, the first consignment of red rice was delivered to the United States of America from Assam. Iron rich red rice is grown in Brahmaputra valley of Assam, without the use of any chemical fertilizer.
