Malawi exported tobacco in 2019 worth USD 501.4
million, an increase from 2018’s USD 493.7 million. Malawi’s tobacco exports
accounted for 54.92% to overall value of shipments recorded last year.
According to Malawi export data, the
country shipped unmanufactured tobacco (tobacco refuse) under HS Code 2401, the
most worth USD 498.4 million in 2019. Malawi’s top export partner of tobacco
was Belgium, which recorded almost 30% share in value of total tobacco exports.

Malawi’s tobacco exports totaled USD 501.4 million in
2019. Tobacco is largely categorized into unmanufactured tobacco and
manufactured tobacco. Malawi exports unmanufactured tobacco the most as
compared to manufactured tobacco. Malawi shipped unmanufactured tobacco worth
USD 498.4 million and manufactured tobacco worth USD 2.9 million in 2019. In
terms of quantity, Malawi exported 136,411 tons of unmanufactured tobacco and
456 tons of manufactured tobacco in the said year.

in value of tobacco export shipments. Year 2014 recorded a rise in export value
of tobacco, which declined in 2015. Year 2016 and 2017 registered a rise and
2018 recorded a decline in export value of tobacco. Malawi recorded a slight

million), Germany (USD 22.3 million) and South Korea (USD 15.3 million). As per
